Operating Above the Fold
Recently I’ve set a new goal for myself regarding email – I aspire to be operating above the fold within the Gmail interface.
The term above the fold refers to the information that’s visible on your screen, without having to scroll. Depending on the size of the screen and its resolution, the fold exists at different positions on your various devices.
A Simple Gmail Tip
One tool that helps me get closer to achieving a clean, no-scroll Inbox, is Gmail’s Send and Archive button.
When the Send and Archive button is enabled, it allows you to reply and archive a message at the same time. For example if you are responding to an email to confirm an appointment, in one click, the button sends your reply and archives the conversation thread. It’s great for those polite replies that simply read, “Thank you!” or “I look forward to seeing you Friday!”
It’s simple to enable the Send and Archive button in Gmail. Here’s how:
Go to Gmail settings
Under the Send and Archive section, select Show “Send & Archive” button in reply
The next time you send a reply the Send and Archive button will appear. Send and archive in one click!
